Three times convincer and Authority

One of the members of my mastermind group - Tim Durkin who lives in Texas asked me his opinion on his marketing. Whilst he has written a great book, he didn't have author on his sales pitches. Now an Author makes you an AUTHORity on a subject and to add author to anything gives you that edge. Additionally it gave him the ability to have the "power of three" in his sales line on his email signature.

Always carry an ideas book

When I am coaching my clients on negotiation and all other high perforamance business skills, I give them a small notebook to write down their thoughts and ideas as they occur to them. This week Jeremy Wilson vice chairman of Barclays PLC and Chairman of Bloomsbury Publishing reminded me that he always carries my notebook and thanked me for the valuable advice I gave him 5 years ago. Have you gotyour notebook?

Wednesday the most depressing day?

The University of Sydney have just published a piece of research which says that Wednesday is the most depressing day of the week. Apparently this is because we are furthest from either weekend. They also found that although we look forward to the weekend it doesn't actually improve our mood.

What amazes me is that these pieces of research make the front pages of our newspapers, and this is Australian research. As we know bad news sells newspapers, so be careful or the newspapers will be programming your brain making you feel the Wednesday blues.

Mind your language - No trys

Loose language - Try. This is one of those words that needs to be challenged. Try is an excuse not to do something. Children use it often. I will try and be in by that time, I will try and do my homework this weekend, I will try and be nice to that person.

As adults people do the same. I will try and do the shopping. I will try and do that report by Friday. Either you wil or you won't. If you can't or don't want to, say so.

Test people who you work with whether they will or they won't. Don;t try to - do it.
